Project Summary:
Nimrod Music Project supported an after school program to encourage music as an extracurricular activity as a method of keeping kids occupied, under supervision, safe, and off the streets. Your gift brought joy and happiness into these children's lives during the New Year.

Affiliate: Cara Cibener (lives and teaches in NYC) visited Nimrod Moloto-Melodic Music (Pimville, Soweto, South Africa) in 2010.

In the words of Cara, "a wonderful after school music program in the township of Soweto.  This program teaches children flute, recorder and other wind instruments, in addition to performing and recording music.  They meet everyday and their commitment and excitement for learning was so wonderful to see!  My dear friend Gretchen is deeply involved with the program and friends with it's founder and head teacher, Nimrod.  I feel confident that the money we raise to support the program with sheet music and music stands will go to good use!"

In the words of Nimrod: "This year our young musicians wrote and performed an Opera on the fringe of the Grahamstown Festival. The Opera was entitled “Afterschool” and it depicted their experiences of what happens after school hours before their parents come home.  It included the threats of violence, drugs, and HIV aids.  The both acted out the Opera and used the instruments as the voices ‘talking and singing’ throughout the acts.
